Anaheim

If traveling to Anaheim, California, chances are pretty good that you’ve got Disney on the mind. Home to the world-famous group of theme parks and hotels, Anaheim’s Disneyland has become the city’s largest tourist attraction since opening its doors in 1955. The additions of the Anaheim Convention Center, the Honda Center (home of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks) and Angel Stadium have only added to this SoCal city’s mass, tourist-oriented appeal.  Even if you didn’t come for Mickey and the gang, there is still plenty to do here. From Orange County’s 42 miles of coastline, to the dozens of pristine championship golf courses and endless shopping possibilities, Anaheim is a sun-soaked city that has it all.

While family fun might reign supreme in the Anaheim area with dozens of theme parks even beyond Disney, such as SeaWorld, Knott’s Berry Farm, LegoLand and Universal Studios, there are other surprising options available for travelers without little ones. A short distance away, in Temecula and Santa Ana, California, there are a host of gorgeous wineries that provide tours and tastings. That same area also has a range of casinos, offering everything from musical and comedy entertainment to a wide variety of table and slot games. With over 1,000 retailers in Orange County alone, a day of shopping can turn into a tiring yet satisfying event, only to leave you in the soothing hands of one of Anaheim’s famed spas. When all else fails, there’s nothing more relaxing then hitting one of the many pristine beaches in the OC.

Anaheim offers a true fusion of culinary influences when it comes to its ever-expanding dining scene. Hot spots like Café del Sol, Tangerine and Fire & Ice capture the California Cuisine sensation that has exploded on the West Coast. With a location on the Pacific coast, fresh seafood comes easy to the Orange County area. The Catch, Las Brisas and Bluewater Grille and Oyster Bar are all highly rated restaurants known for their seafood.

The closest airport to the Anaheim area is John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Santa Ana, while Los Angeles International (LAX) is the largest. Though the city provides public transportation by way of the Orange County Transit Authority, which runs a bus service throughout the neighboring cities, it is recommended to have a car while visiting the Anaheim area.

With warm temperatures lasting throughout the year, Anaheim borders between a coastal Mediterranean and semi-arid climate. The hottest month of July has an average high temperature of 86° F (30° C), while the average high remains around the upper 60s throughout the winter months. Whether coming for the beaches, Disney or a perfect round of golf, Anaheim is a tried-and-true, year-round destination, attracting visitors in all seasons.
