My wife and I travelled Italy by train in September and October of 2011.  It was a wonderful trip and provided us with many fine memories.  We booked the trip with one of our favorite Foreign Independent Tours (FIT) companies. Doing so allowed us to customize the itinerary to our desires. Here's a city by city travel log of our adventures.

September 18, 2011 - Arrival in Milano, Italy

Our arrival in Milano was eventfull and not exactly in a good way.  It turned out that Italy was in the midst of a labor strike and it affected all of the public transit.  So, our train to Torino was cancelled and we had to wait in the Milano train station with thousands of our new found friends until the strike was over.  Stressful but not insurmountable!  We got a train later that day.
